The Sisimito Series The Sisimito Series, a total of five books, takes place in two different worlds and times; yet, they occur in the same geographical area. It is one of the greatest series written about the endogenous peoples of the Americas, this series about the Maya, based in Belize, Guatemala, and Yucatan. It is of the Fantasy and Adventure genre and is centered in Ox Witz Ha (Caracol). The Sisimito Series begins in March, AD 1972 in Belize then shifts to March, AD 631 in the World of the Maya, the period when the Maya Civilization was at its height. During this period, K’an II, aka Ruler V, Lord Stormwater Moon, Antenna Top II, was ruler of Ox Witz Ha (Caracol). K’an II was born 18 April, 588, his accession was 6 March, 618, and he reigned until his death 21 July, 658 at the age of 70. He was the most successful Ox Witz Ha (Caracol) ruler. Reigning for 40 years, he expanded the causeway system and saw an increase in the site's population. Born as Sak Witzil Baah, translated as White First Hill or White Gopher Hill, he took his grandfather's name at his accession. At Ox Witz Ha (Caracol), there are approximately 267 structures per square kilometer, 85% higher than Yax Mutul (Tikal). The site covers approximately 200 square kilometers, and within this area, structures are generally situated equidistantly and are integrated with the terrace system. The town grew into one of the largest ancient Maya cities, covering some 177 km (68 sq mi) with an estimated population of over 100,000 with settlement focused along the many radiating causeways (potentially peaking between 120,000 and up to 180,000). The Sisimito Series brings the adventures of Sgt. Eutimio (Stephen) Chiac, a Belizean soldier in the British Honduras Volunteer Guard, now the Belize Defence Force, and Molly Cervantez, a teacher from Belize City, to the forefront of Belizean Literature and that of the entire Americas. It takes you into the mysterious, perilous, and pristine jungle of the Cockscomb Basin, Belize, and into the dangerous world of the dreaded Sisimito (Mahanamatz) and the Jungle Folk characters, the Kechelaj Komon, including Xtabai, La Sucia, Cadejo, La Sirena, La Llorona, Warrie Massa, El Dueño de Los Kekeos, Tata Duende, and many others. Journey with Chiac and Molly, through the magnificent Maya city of Ox Witz Ha (Caracol), the world of Maya Cosmology–Yaxché, and the Place of Fear, Xibalba, the Underworld. The Sisimito Series is the most outstanding series written about the Maya, its civilization and mythology, has many beautiful and meaningful illustrations, extensive Notes and each Appendix is filled with interesting and relevant information. It brings the reader to the Maya Pantheon of Gods and Goddesses, the Kings and Queens, the cities, the people, the languages, the warfare. It is well researched and the timeline is based on Maya historical facts. Once you have read the Sisimito Series, you will have shared in the most wonderful of worlds and the greatest of adventures. Note: There was an initial book called Sisimito which is no longer in print; it has been replaced by Sisimito I - Ox Witz Ha.
Molly Cervantez is a trim and proper teacher from Belize City. Eutimio (Stephen) Chiac is a rough coarse soldier from Santa Cruz. They do not know each other until they meet on a bus going to Santa Cruz in what turned out to be an unpleasant encounter for Molly. She has been invited by a student to spend the Easter Holidays at Santa Cruz, Toledo. After leaving the bus and while bicycling to Santa Cruz, Molly is kidnapped by Sisimito and taken into Sisimito’s World and the World of the Maya. Meanwhile, Chiac spends his Easter leave and returns to his duties, the first of which is to take a fireteam, comprising two soldiers and two civilians, for a walk through the Cockscomb Basin and to climb Victoria Peak. But tragedy strikes. Sisimito attacks and while escaping in a flooded river, Chiac almost drowns. When he regains consciousness, he is in a locked cage in Sisimito’s lair. Molly is there. Sisimito and his Jungle Horde of animals are preparing for a jungle wedding. He and Molly are to be married. The night of the wedding, however, Molly and Chiac escape. By morning, they are pursued as they flee. The flight continues until they suddenly come upon a Royal Hunting Party which includes Ajawinel K’an II of Ox Witz Ha (Caracol). They are escorted to the Royal City where they face many dangers. Chiac fights for his life while he plays a game of pitz. Molly has to survive being thrown into the Sacred Cenote. K’an II and some of the Princes of Ox Witz Ha have taken a liking to the two strangers and as Ox Witz Ha prepares for a war with the Kingdom of Maxam (Naranjo), Chiac begins to play a major role. As Maxam attacks and the battle continues, K’an II orders Molly and Chiac escorted out of the city. They reluctantly do, as ordered. They try to make sense of where they are and how to get back to their own world. Sisimito attacks them as he continues desperately to recapture Molly. They are driven into a cave where there is a Sacred Waterfall. An apparition indicates that they should throw themselves into it and they do. The Sacred Waterfall is a portal to their world and when they regain consciousness, they are back. To purchase go to: https://store.bookbaby.com/book/sisimito-i---ox-witz-ha1
Molly and Chiac’s relationship had grown during their adventures and, after much indecision, Molly decides to accept Chiac’s proposal of marriage. They will be married at Uch Ben Cah near Santa Cruz. Everything is prepared for the big day and friends and family from Belize City, army comrades, and villagers from all around are invited. The ceremony is filled with Maya traditions and beauty. Danger lurks, however, and just before the wedding vows are made, Sisimito and his Jungle Folk and Jungle Horde attack. There is great death and destruction and Molly is once again kidnapped. The following morning, Chiac and his fireteam, including his father, leave Santa Cruz and follow Sisimito’s track through the jungle on a northwesterly route taking them towards the Chiquibul Forest area. Days later, as they are resting on a flood plain near a river, Sisimito and his Jungle Horde advances on them. A very disheveled Molly is with them. After a fierce encounter, the fireteam is forced to retreat into the river and seek refuge in a cave where a branch of the river takes them. They are forced deeper and deeper until they are drawn into a whirlpool where they accept their fate, that they will drown. When they regain consciousness, they are on the bank of a river, the River of Scorpions, in Xibalba, the whirlpool being a portal into Xibalba. A great adventure begins as Chiac and his fireteam fight for their lives. Chiac is tried by the Death Gods, Hun-Came and Vucub-Came, and the ten Demon Lords of Xibalba. He is sentenced to the six Trial Houses in the Cavern of Trials. He must be able to survive each one. He and his fireteam must win as they battle for their lives in a game of pitz before the Xibalbans. Chiac knows that if he wants to rescue Molly, he not only has to survive, but to escape. Chiac gets help from the Hero Twins, Hunahpu and Xbalanque, who are no friends of the Death Gods. There are also Warriors who wish to escape Xibalba and return to the Surface World. After strategic planning, intrigue, and a great battle on the banks of the River of Scorpions, they escape through that river and are back in the world of Sisimito and the Maya. After escaping Xibalba, Chiac, his fireteam, and the Warriors who escaped with him, have to make a long journey covering hundreds of miles to reach Ox Witz Ha (Caracol). They emerged from the River of Scorpions at Ja’Xakanul (Water Volcano) near what is now Southwestern Guatemala, close to the Pacific Ocean. They, once again, face many dangers as they battle with Kingdoms not allied with Ox Witz Ha, survive volcanic explosions, floods, and earthquakes. They battle against the evil forces of Naj Tunich and Chiac faces death as he is injured by one of the rabid animals of the Warrie Massa as they advance on Ox Witz Ha. When Chiac and his Warriors do arrive at Ox Witz Ha, it is only to find out that intelligence suggests that Sisimito and his Army of the Jungle Folk and Jungle Horde will attack the cities of K’aay, Paxte, and Topoxte, three islands in Lake Yaxha, Topoxte being the largest and where the Ruler resided. Intel from military scouts also state that Molly will be there with Sisimito. K’an II orders his army to fight Sisimito, but Naj Tunich is sending an army to attack Ox Witz Ha in retaliation for what Chiac did at Naj Tunich. K’an II, nevertheless, orders his army to advance on Topoxte. The Battle for Topoxte is one of the greatest battles in the Sisimito Series and thousands on both sides are killed. Sisimito is defeated, presumed dead, and Molly is rescued, but she does not appear to be Molly anymore. Months later, when Molly is much better, she and Chiac return to the Sacred Waterfall and, using the portal, return to their world. Chiac is very upset for, at the last moment, he is advised by his father, and good friend and comrade, Teul, that they have decided to remain at Ox Witz Ha. Molly and Chiac gets married in Belize City and they have a large reception in Santa Cruz. This time, there were no incidents. Also, K’an II has ordered his return to Ox Witz Ha. Chiac realizes that Sisimito has done this so that he, Chiac, has to return to Ox Witz Ha. Sisimito would then be able to get his revenge on him, Chiac. Molly is very distressed when Chiac tells her that he will be returning to Xibalba. Teul, Chiac and his fireteam then leave and return to Xibalba through the whirlpool portal in the Chiquibul. They meet up with a section of Warriors Chiac had met when in Xibalba before and they informed him that a former Warrior of Ox Witz Ha, Kish, who had partaken in the previous escape through the River of Scorpions, and other Warriors that Chiac knew, were being held prisoners in the Village of Pus. He was also told that Kish was covertly organizing an army to fight the Warriors of the Death Gods. When Chiac asked about escaping Xibalba, he was informed that he couldn’t escape through the River of Scorpions again as it was heavily guarded. The only place was through the Tahtzibichen Jul (Cave in Northern Yucatan). They faced the dangers of the Fire Lands, including the demon, K’aak’as-ba’al, as they proceeded towards the Village of Pus, but, when they arrived there, the village was deserted. It was not long, however, before they were attacked by Warriors of the Death Gods and Demon Lords. They were overwhelmed and pushed towards the headwaters of the River of Pus where they entered a cave from which no one usually returned. It was the entrance to the Realms of Oxlahuntikú, the Thirteen Heavens of Yaxché, and Bolontikú, the Nine Underworlds of Yaxché, filled with wonders, but also with untold dangers and suffering. When they finally exited, it was not to the Surface World as they thought they would, but they were once again in Xibalba. They had to cross the Fire Lands, once again, the River of Scorpions, and the Frost Lands in order to reach Tahtzibichen Jul, each having its own dangers. On the Surface World, Chiac, K’an II, and their allies prepare to fight Sisimito. But it is not only Sisimito. Kingdoms not allied to Ox Witz Ha have banded together and will launch a major assault on Ox Witx Ha and her allies. Major battles are fought and, finally, intel comes to Chiac that Sisimito has his father at Victoria Peak, where it all began. That’s where Sisimito plans to take his revenge.
